The Eighth Meeting of the Directors General of Civil Aviation-Middle East Region (DGCA-MID/8) began in Doha on 26 October 2026. Hosted by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Middle East Regional Office, the meeting runs until 28 October and brings together directors general and officials from civil aviation authorities across the region and other countries, alongside representatives of international and regional organizations concerned with civil aviation.
In his opening address, Mr. Mohamed bin Faleh Al-Hajri, In Charge of Managing QCAA, described the meeting as an opportunity to identify priorities for the next phase amid rapid transformations in the civil aviation sector.
Al-Hajri also addressed key regional developments and their implications for civil aviation, emphasizing the importance of stronger regional cooperation and coordination under the current circumstances. He expressed hope that joint efforts and continued coordination would help operational activities return to normal levels, strengthen the sector’s stability and support its future growth. He also said the meeting could enhance joint regional preparedness and advance existing efforts and initiatives under ICAO, supporting efficient air operations and their ability to address current challenges.
The agenda covers global developments in aviation safety and air navigation, cybersecurity, environmental protection and sustainability. Discussions also address air transport facilitation, regional cooperation and implementation support, progress in the Middle East Aviation Security Programme and challenges related to unmanned aircraft.
