If you live in Qatar, one of the easiest ways to have a low-cost cultural day out is to visit the country's major museums.
Qatar residents with valid identification currently enter several flagship Qatar Museums venues free of charge, including the National Museum of Qatar and 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum. Mathaf goes one step further: admission is currently free for everyone.
For tourists and visiting family, prices differ by museum and so do the weekly closure days.
Here's the current 2026 breakdown of Doha museum ticket prices, free-entry rules and opening hours.
Doha museum entry at a glance

Non-resident university students: QAR 25
Children 16 and under: Free
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
Everyone: Free
Special exhibitions: Free
Ticket still required
The exact ticket type shown by Qatar Museums should always be checked before visiting, particularly for temporary exhibitions and special venues.
National Museum of Qatar
The National Museum of Qatar is one of the best-value major museums for visiting friends and family.
Current Qatar Museums ticket categories are:
- Adult resident of Qatar: Free
- Adult non-resident: QAR 25
- Child aged 16 or under: Free
- Resident university student: Free
- Non-resident university student: Free
A valid student ID is required for the student category.
The standard museum ticket covers admission to the National Museum and its exhibitions.
National Museum opening hours
Current hours are:
Sunday: 9am–7pm
Monday: 9am–7pm
Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: 9am–7pm
Thursday: 9am–9pm
Friday: 1:30pm–7pm
Saturday: 9am–7pm
Qatar Museums lists last entry at 45 minutes before closing.
Getting there
Take the Doha Metro Gold Line to National Museum Station.
That is much more accurate than describing Msheireb as the museum's main Metro access.
Museum of Islamic Art
The Museum of Islamic Art sits on the Corniche and houses Qatar's major collection of Islamic art spanning more than 1,400 years.
For visitors, the current admission benchmark is:
QAR 50 for a non-resident adult
Discover Qatar currently sells MIA admission from QAR 50.
Children aged 16 and under enter free under Qatar Museums' standard museum ticket framework.
What about GCC residents?
I would remove the statement:
“GCC residents enter free.”
Qatar Museums did introduce free museum admission for GCC nationals and residents during the 2022 FIFA World Cup period, and the free-entry policy was temporarily extended into 2023. That is not sufficient evidence for a blanket GCC exemption in October 2026.
For a 2026 guide, tell GCC visitors to check the current ticket category shown when booking rather than promise free admission.
Museum of Islamic Art opening hours
MIA follows a different closure day from the National Museum:
Sunday: 9am–7pm
Monday: 9am–7pm
Tuesday: 9am–7pm
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: 9am–9pm
Friday: 1:30pm–7pm
Saturday: 9am–7pm.
The outdoor MIA Park remains a separate public space and is a good addition to a museum visit.
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
Mathaf is the simplest venue in this guide when it comes to pricing.
Qatar Museums currently states:
Entry to Mathaf and all special exhibitions is free to everyone.
That applies to residents and international visitors alike.
However, a ticket is still required, so visitors should reserve through the Qatar Museums ticketing system.
Mathaf opening hours
Mathaf's weekly closure day is Monday, not Tuesday.
Current hours are:
Sunday: 9am–7pm
Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 9am–7pm
Wednesday: 9am–7pm
Thursday: 9am–9pm
Friday: 1:30pm–7pm
Saturday: 9am–7pm.
Mathaf is located in Education City.
3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum
For sports fans and families, 3-2-1 is one of Doha's strongest interactive museum options.
Current Qatar Museums ticket categories are:
Adult Qatar resident: Free
Adult non-resident: QAR 50
Child aged 16 or under: Free
Resident university student: Free
Non-resident university student: QAR 25
The ticket covers the museum and its exhibitions.
3-2-1 opening hours
The schedule currently follows:
Sunday: 9am–7pm
Monday: 9am–7pm
Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: 9am–7pm
Thursday: 9am–9pm
Friday: 1:30pm–7pm
Saturday: 9am–7pm.
What about M7?
M7 works differently from the major museums.
It is a creative hub in Msheireb Downtown Doha hosting changing exhibitions, fashion, design and creative programmes.
Do not use Valentino Forever as the current exception to free resident admission. That was associated with Qatar Museums' 2022 ticketing programme and is no longer a current exhibition.
In Fall 2026, M7 is hosting exhibitions including Around the World in Jewellery, opening on 27 October.
Other Qatar Museums design programming in 2026 is being offered through separately ticketed products, including the Design Doha Biennial 2026.
So the safest rule is:
Check the individual M7 exhibition page before visiting.
Don't assume every exhibition is either free or covered by the general museum resident policy.
Are there free museum days in Doha?
Not really in the traditional sense.
Qatar Museums does not currently operate one universal weekly day when every paid museum suddenly becomes free.
Instead, free admission is mainly based on:
Residency, age, student status or the venue itself.
For Qatar Living readers, the most useful rule is:
If you are a Qatar resident, check the resident ticket first — many major Qatar Museums venues are free.
Special exhibitions, external venues and separately ticketed festivals or biennials can have their own rules.
Do you need to book if entry is free?
Qatar Museums recommends booking museum tickets online.
But I would avoid saying that every museum uses a strict timed-entry slot.
The current ticketing platform generally asks visitors to choose a date, and tickets are valid for a single entry on the selected admission date.
For free resident or student tickets, bring the valid ID that proves your category.
That can include:
- QID for resident tickets
- Student ID for university-student tickets
- Passport or accepted identification where required for visitor categories
Discover One Pass
For visiting family or tourists who want to see several museums, the Discover One Pass is worth comparing with individual tickets.
The current package costs:
QAR 70
and includes access to:
- National Museum of Qatar
- Museum of Islamic Art
- 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum
- Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
- Available exhibitions included in the programme
The pass is valid for:
Five days from first use
and allows access across the included museums during that period.
For comparison, current individual adult visitor prices include:
National Museum: QAR 25
MIA: QAR 50
3-2-1: QAR 50
So a non-resident planning to visit all three paid museums could spend QAR 125 individually, making the QAR 70 pass potentially good value.
Mathaf itself remains free.
Check the current pass inclusions before purchasing because venue availability can change.
Don't assume all museums close on Tuesday
This is one of the easiest mistakes to make.
Tuesday closure
- National Museum of Qatar
- 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum
Wednesday closure
- Museum of Islamic Art
Monday closure
- Mathaf
Thursday is the late-opening day at all four major museums, with closing at 9pm under the current schedule.
Money-saving tips for Doha museums
Carry your QID
If you're a resident, your ID is what allows staff to verify your free resident ticket.
Use student status where available
At the National Museum, both resident and non-resident university students currently qualify for free entry with valid student ID.
At 3-2-1, resident university students are free while non-resident students currently pay QAR 25.
Compare the One Pass for visitors
For a tourist planning several museums, QAR 70 can work out cheaper than buying the major museum tickets separately.
Pair museums with free outdoor spaces
Combine MIA with MIA Park and the Corniche, or the National Museum with the surrounding outdoor museum grounds, for a longer day without adding another admission charge.
Check temporary exhibitions separately
Free resident admission to the main museum does not automatically mean every Qatar Museums exhibition, biennial or event at every cultural venue is free.

Free access generally depends on the visitor category or venue rather than the day of the week.

Free venues and free visitor categories can still require a ticket, as Mathaf explicitly does.
How much is the Discover One Pass?
