Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has welcomed around 900 new students as the 2026–2027 academic year begins, following a two-day Student Orientation Program held at Minaretein and Manufactury in Education City.

The incoming cohort is enrolled across 51 academic programmes and includes 315 undergraduate students and 576 graduate students. More than 300 Qataris are among the new students.

During the orientation, students were introduced to HBKU's interdisciplinary learning environment, campus life, academic expectations, research facilities and student support services.

The new academic year also marks the launch of HBKU's School of Education, expanding the university's academic portfolio and its contribution to education and talent development in Qatar and beyond.

The College of Science and Engineering has also added two new programmes: a BSc in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering and a Master of Science in Integrated Circuits and Intelligent Systems Design.

HBKU said its academic and research programmes span fields including artificial intelligence, sustainability, health, humanities and Islamic studies, with a focus on equipping students with knowledge and skills for a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Prabhat Hajela, Provost of HBKU, said the university remains committed to advancing education, research and innovation in Qatar and internationally, with students at the centre of its mission.

He said HBKU's multidisciplinary and outcomes-focused approach aims to prepare future leaders with the knowledge, skills and confidence to address complex challenges.

The university's academic framework also includes flexible learning pathways, stackable credentials and lifelong skills development alongside traditional degree programmes.

Dr. Maryam Al Mannai, Vice President for Student Affairs at HBKU, highlighted the importance of the wider student experience, including opportunities to build connections, explore new ideas and engage with the diverse Education City community.

HBKU said the start of the academic year reflects its continued focus on strengthening national research capabilities and developing future leaders able to contribute to Qatar and the wider world.
