Qatar’s Minister of Public Health HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud issued a circular authorising the use of valid national identification card (QID) for residents, instead of health card, when accessing services at Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, and other facilities across the health sector.
The circular clarified that the previously approved fees for the health card and its annual renewal will continue to be collected from residents. When residents present their QID, their health number will be verified through the systems at healthcare institutions, ensuring necessary healthcare services are provided.
Circular No. (10) of 2026 stipulates the discontinuation of printing health cards for residents.
In September 2025, the ministry announced a decision by the Minister of Public Health to replace health cards with QIDs for Qatari citizens, free of charge.
The ministry advises citizens and residents to have their QID cards when visiting health facilities.
The decision aligns with the ministry’s efforts to simplify administrative procedures, standardise official documents used by government entities, and enhance the patient experience.
