Hungary’s Ambassador to Qatar Ferenc Korom called Sheikh Tamim ‘one of the most important political leaders of the world who is an advocate of peace and stability both in the Middle East and in the world in general.’
“We’re deeply honoured and pleased that HH The Amir is making a historic visit to Hungary as a Guest of Honour for our national day as well as visiting the 2023 World Athletics Championships,” he said.
Talks between the two countries will revolve mainly around Hungary’s keenness is buying Qatari gas starting 2027.
Earlier on Friday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto had said the two nations had reached “a political agreement” on liquified natural gas (LNG), with supplies set to begin in three years’ time.
“We’ve reached a political agreement, which is now followed by talks between energy companies Qatargas and Hungary’s MVM to determine the quantity, pace and shipment route of the supplied gas to Hungary from 2027,” Szijjarto had said, according to Reuters.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Hungary Abdullah bin Falah bin Abdullah Al Dosari said HH The Amir’s visit to Budapest was a step forward in strengthening and consolidating relations between the two nations.
“Qatari-Hungarian relations date back to 1990, when they had non-resident embassies. But the relationship witnessed a major shift with the opening of the two nations’ embassies in 2004. This step represented a true translation of mutual keenness to develop relations between the two sides, which had been growing over the years,” said Al Dosari.
HH The Amir, during his Hungarian visit, is also expected to sign several Memoranda of Understanding in the fields of youth, sports, health, agriculture, environmental protection and nature conservation.
