Asian Games: Qatar Swimmer Ali Tamer Reaches 100m Freestyle Final and Breaks National Record

Qatar national team swimmer Ali Tamer qualified for the men’s 100-metre freestyle final at the 20th Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026,” currently taking place in Japan and continuing until October 4. The men’s individual events were held today at the Aquatics Centre in the Japanese capital.

Tamer secured his place in the final after finishing second in his heat with a time of 48.65 seconds, breaking his own Qatari record of 49.10 seconds after a strong heat.

The Qatari swimmer continues to make a strong showing at the Asian Games, with hopes of performing well in the final and achieving a result that brings distinction to Qatari swimming.

Qatar’s swimming team will compete in the 4 × 200-metre freestyle relay tomorrow, Monday, aiming for a positive result and to strengthen its presence in the Asian competition.

Qatar is represented in swimming at the continental event by six swimmers: Mohammed Mahmoud, Ali Tamer, Saad Eddin Saad Eddin, Emil Mounir Fawzaei, Abdullah Al Ghamri and Mohammed Aziz Jilani. Three of them began their participation on the first day.

The Asian Games swimming programme includes 41 events, comprising individual and relay races.

Qatar is participating in the 20th Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026” with a delegation of 427 people, including 243 athletes—184 men and 59 women.
