Qatar has made its mark with the successful hosting of a number of prestigious sporting events recently.

Just this year the country hosted the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, a first for the region, and earlier this week it was the stage to the inaugural Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) World Beach Games Qatar 2019.

With lots more on the way, the country has already sparked the interest of sports fans and enthusiasts around the world to witness the historic 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

According to a recent worldwide survey conducted by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), there is a massive demand from the international market to come to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

SC’s transport planner, Tony Sharpe told reporters on the sidelines of the PTV Mobility Day event yesterday that "there is a strong interest in people to come and stay in Qatar."

The SC official said the survey was conducted this year and covered as many as 17,000 people from around the world.

The responses from the survey helped guide SC's data. This included information on the things visitors want to do in Qatar, their expectations, how will they spend their time, the number of tickets they want, and accommodations they prefer, among others.

Several respondents preferred to come, watch, and stay where the event will take place rather than going on regional tours, Sharpe mentioned.

"They also want to see lots of games, they like the idea of two matches in one day is a possibility, but they also love the idea of coming for a week and seeing a match every day," Sharpe mentioned.

Most of the respondents would like to visit every stadium, he added. This will be a unique experience for football fans from around the world.

The SC official said that 3 million tickets will be available for the entire tournament.

Qatar is expecting around 1.5 million visitors to come to the country during the games in 2022,  Sharpe highlighted during his presentation.

Since classes will be suspended for the duration of the event, school-going children and their families will have the chance to come and enjoy the matches.

"Infrastructure is not going to be an issue, I think the biggest challenge that we have is the operation of the workforce, training and bringing in this enormous number of people to welcome the World Cup," Sharpe noted.

Qatar is accelerating its preparations for the historic tournament with two stadiums already open and a third to be inaugurated by year-end. Security training has also been underway involving the world's top security agencies.

Earlier in September, SC took the wraps off the official emblem for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in a stunning digital campaign. The campaign saw the logo being revealed at several key locations around the world simultaneously.
