Meta has made its new artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark Open, available for download in collaboration with Apple, which prepared it to run on its Mac Studio desktop computers. This allows developers to operate the model directly on their devices without relying on cloud services for every process.
According to Meta, the model can be used for coding, software development and operating artificial intelligence systems capable of performing multiple tasks independently. It can also handle a context window of up to one million tokens.
Running the model requires two Mac Studio computers, each with 512GB of memory, providing a total capacity of one terabyte. Developers can modify the model according to their needs within the specified licensing terms.
Meta made the model available for download through specialized technology platforms, while it can also be operated through platforms that provide artificial intelligence services to developers. The model is subject to a licence that permits its free use under specified conditions.
The collaboration forms part of Apple’s efforts to strengthen the artificial intelligence capabilities of its devices by working with companies developing advanced models, with the aim of providing new features and increasing demand for its products.
Apple CEO John Ternus said running and efficiently scaling a model at the level of Muse Spark Open directly from a desk was remarkable. He added that Mac Studio continues to push the boundaries of what is possible for on-device artificial intelligence.
