The Public Works Authority – Ashghal announced yesterday that as part of the continuing works on the massive Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor project, a new 850-meter-long bridge in Al Luqta will be partially opened to traffic tomorrow.
As the bridge opens, two lanes will be available to motorists; from Al Luqta toward Al Rayyan and from Al Rayyan to Al Luqta.
According to Ashghal, the opening of the new bridge will reduce traffic congestion in the area, ensuring free traffic flow between Al Gharrafa, Al Luqta, Al Waab, and Al Rayyan. The bridge will offer a direct link between these areas.

Once fully operational by 2020, the new bridge will significantly reduce travel (by almost 60 percent) time as well as decrease traffic congestion between the areas.
The bridge will comprise four lanes and will be able to accommodate more than 16,000 vehicles per hour in each direction.
Ashghal project engineer, Ali Ibrahim, said the opening of the new bridge marks a key milestone of the construction works on northern Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor.
The bridge will help in providing easy access to Al Rayyan Road and Khalifa Avenue and therefore ease traffic moving on this route.

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and Sheikh Nasser al-Mohamed al-Ahmad al-Sabah, representative of Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, had launched Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor project in February this year.
In the following month, Ashghal announced that as part of the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor project, the construction works on Qatar's first cable-stayed bridge had begun.
The Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor project will act as a vital artery of Qatar’s road infrastructure, enhancing north-south connectivity and provide access to more than 25 residential areas.
This project is the first in Qatar to be called a ‘Corridor,’ instead of a road, due to its great importance and unique construction.
There will be a total of 17 intersections, 32 bridges and 12 tunnels built as part of the project.
