Qatar Airways joins hands with Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) to support a global start-up competition event that will be hosted in Doha.

It is an initiative led by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) inviting bright minds to share ideas toward accelerating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the tourism industry.

The competition is aimed at global entrepreneurs whose ideas contribute toward the achievement of the United Nations 17 SDGs through state-of-the-art methods, governance structures, and social impact initiatives, technological applications, and other ways of chosen innovation.

Based on pre-requisites such as innovative value-added solutions with the potential for international scalability, successful applicants are being selected from July to October 2020.

The final event will be held in Doha, Qatar in February 2021 along with providing flights, transportation, and accommodation by Qatar Airways and QNTC to the finalists.

Qatar Airways recognizes the essential role the tourism sector plays in the positive fulfillment of societies’ economic potential and cultural relevance.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive and QNTC Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said, “During these challenging times, it is essential for nations to provide platforms where entrepreneurs can realize innovative ideas that align with the current necessities of the worldwide market. As a company that is moulded strongly by tourism, we are determined to play our role in supporting the UNWTO through this competition, upholding sustainability, and innovation at the heart of the global economic recovery. We look forward to welcoming these bright minds to Doha, with the anticipation that they can accelerate their vision toward a sustainable future.”

Qatar Airways will be actively involved in the competition finals, with a representative from the airline evaluating the participating start-ups through various competition phases, as part of the jury.

The UNWTO will advocate the best ideas to its Member States, Affiliate Members, and investors, providing winners with unique networking and matchmaking opportunity.

Those who are interested can apply through the competition’s website before October 10, 2020.

According to the latest IATA data, Qatar Airways has become the largest international carrier between April to June by fulfilling its mission of taking people home. This enabled the airline to accumulate unmatched experience in carrying passengers safely and reliably and uniquely positioned the airline to effectively rebuild its network. The carrier has stringently implemented the most advanced safety and hygiene measures onboard its aircraft and in Hamad International Airport.

To ensure travelers can plan their travel with peace of mind in the current climate, the airline has extended its booking policies to offer even more choice to its passengers. The airline allows unlimited date changes, and passengers can change their destination as often as they need if it is within 5,000 miles of the original one. The airline will not charge any fare differences for travel completed before 31 December 2020, after which fare rules will apply. All tickets booked for travel up to  December  31, 2020, will be valid for two years from the date of issuance.
