Qatar has always been one of the first countries to extend a helping hand to Sudan in times of need.

Last year, the country affirmed its full support to ensure Sudan’s stability and sovereignty and backed the formation of the new Sudanese government, calling it an important step toward the realization of the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Qatar also delivered relief-aid to flood-stricken areas in Sudan to alleviate the suffering of thousands of families affected by the natural disaster.

Now, the country has once again stepped up to help the brotherly nation of Sudan with a new batch of medical aid sent to its Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH).

A Qatar Amiri Air Force plane arrived in Khartoum yesterday carrying 70 tonnes of medical aid, which was the first of three to be sent to Sudan.

A Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) delegation led the delivery and clearance of the aid. This included Abdullah Hassan Al Mehshadi, general director of the Relief and International Development Division; Ahmed al-Zyara, member of the International Relief Committee; Dilshad Rostom, head of the QRCS mission in Sudan; and mission staff.

Secretary-general of the National Medicines and Poisons Board, Dr Emad Osman Abo Zeid who was present at the ceremony in Sudan as representative of the FMOH, acknowledged Qatar’s “generous and eternal support" to the Sudanese people.

“This shipment is part of medical services, which are a top priority for QRCS in Sudan,” said Al Mehshadi.

He mentioned that the medical supplies were donated by Sidra Medicine and delivered by QRCS with the support of the Qatar Amiri Air Force.
