Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has announced an investment in Lesha Bank’s Lesha Qatar Opportunities Fund under its Active Asset Management Initiative, which was launched in 2024 to establish partnerships with leading global and local asset managers with GCC expertise.

Under the initiative, QIA seeds funds managed by its partners by reallocating shares in Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) listed companies.

The investment makes Lesha Bank the first local asset manager and the fourth partner overall to join the initiative, following Franklin Templeton, Ashmore and Fiera Capital.

QIA said the partnership reflects its commitment to supporting Qatar’s competitive local economy, widening opportunities for domestic asset managers and contributing to the continued development and diversification of Qatar’s capital markets.

QIA CEO Mohammed Saif Al Sowaidi said the investment marks the initiative’s first locally managed fund. He said the partnership supports the development of Qatar’s financial sector and broadens opportunities for local asset managers.

Lesha Bank Group CEO Mohammed Ismail Al Emadi said QIA’s investment in the bank’s public equity fund, which focuses on Shari’a-compliant listed equities, validates the bank’s investment philosophy and capabilities. He added that the partnership is intended to boost economic growth, enhance liquidity on the QSE and strengthen Qatar’s local capital markets over the long term.

Lesha Bank is a Qatar-based Shari’a-compliant investment bank founded in 2008. It is the first independent Shari’a-compliant investment bank authorised by the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority and is listed on the QSE under the ticker QFBQ.

The bank manages approximately QR15bn in assets and offers investment solutions across alternative investments, asset management and investment advisory services.

The Lesha Qatar Opportunities Fund seeks capital growth and income through a diversified portfolio of shares included in the QSE Al Rayan Islamic Index or the QSE All Share Index, in accordance with Shari’a guidelines.

QIA, established in 2005, invests and manages Qatar’s state reserve funds through a globally diversified, long-term investment portfolio.
