Doha Investment, a specialized investment company established to accelerate the next phase of Qatar's economic growth, has increased the size of its Active Asset Management Initiative from QR 2.6 billion to QR 5 billion.
A statement issued by the company said the increase supports the initiative's expansion, strengthens its ability to achieve its long-term objectives, broadens participation by investment institutions and attracts more qualified asset managers. It also contributes to developing Qatar's capital markets and asset management sector, enhancing the competitiveness of the investment ecosystem and supporting its sustainable growth.
His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Doha Investment, said: “Since the Active Asset Management Initiative was launched in Qatar in 2024, it has attracted growing numbers of local and international asset managers and participants, reflecting the promising investment opportunities offered by the Qatari stock market.”
His Excellency added: “Doha Investment is committed to developing the asset management ecosystem and capital markets in the State of Qatar, recognizing the importance of advancing this integrated ecosystem to accelerate the country's next phase of economic growth.” He affirmed that “the additional investment will help stimulate the market, increase its diversity and strengthen cooperation among leading asset managers.”
The Active Asset Management Initiative in Qatar, launched by Qatar Investment Authority in 2024, is based on partnerships with local and global asset managers that have extensive experience in the markets of Qatar and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Since its launch, the initiative has deployed investments worth QR 2.6 billion and currently includes four specialized asset management firms: Ashmore Group, Fiera Capital, Franklin Templeton and Lesha Bank. The initiative intends to continue expanding its participant base by regularly attracting new asset managers from Qatar and abroad.
