Qatar Museums announced its programme of public activities for October, featuring a new photography exhibition, seminars, workshops, creative classes, storytelling sessions, book clubs and family activities across its museums and creative centres.
The programme includes activities for children, young people, adults and families. Highlights include the opening of the photography exhibition "Language of Traces" at Bayt Al Wakrah, a week dedicated to exploring wool as a design material organised by Liwan Design Studios and Labs, several Qatar Creates Talks, and a series of workshops inspired by the "Uzbekistan: A Continuing Legacy" exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art.
As part of Qatar Museums' Fall/Winter 2026-2027 season, the Qatar Creates Talks programme will continue with a session bringing together Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the Painting and Printmaking programme in the Department of Fine Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar.
Another session will be held through a collaboration between Lusail Museum and Georgetown University in Qatar. These sessions will give the public an opportunity to learn about artists and cultural practitioners and explore the ideas shaping contemporary creative practices in Qatar.
The National Museum of Qatar will present a diverse programme that includes activities for the whole family, panel discussions, guided tours, library sessions and interactive experiences focusing on Qatar's heritage, maritime history, traditional clothing and cultural practices.
Among these activities is "Exploring Qatar's Seas", during which families with children aged eight and above will discover how sailors, divers and pearl merchants navigated the waters of the Arabian Gulf before the emergence of modern technology. Participants will learn about traditional sailing vessels known as mahameel, navigation tools such as the kamal and compass, and the maritime connections and pearl-diving routes that helped shape Qatar's history and establish its rich maritime heritage.
The programme also includes an activity titled "Fashion from the Good Old Days" for children aged three and above. Inspired by sticker-based character-dressing games, participants will decorate illustrated figures using stickers depicting traditional Qatari clothing, enabling them to learn about the different garments and styles once worn in Qatar.
A panel discussion titled "Coffee and Hospitality in Qatar" will also be held to mark International Coffee Day. It will explore Qatari hospitality and the cultural significance of Arabic coffee, drawing on the book "Al-Dallah" to examine popular memory and intangible heritage.
The programme will also feature "Lost at Sea: An Immersive Maritime Navigation Experience", in which young people aged 13 to 16 will take part in a simulation of a navigation crew facing open waters whose risks they cannot assess. The immersive experience explores the methods people have used for maritime navigation, including observing the stars, awareness of the surrounding environment, cultural knowledge and modern digital systems.
Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar invited the public to the opening of a new exhibition titled "When the Image Unfolds: Language of Traces", running from October 3 to December 15. The exhibition will feature photographic works created during a five-month artist residency programme.
Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art will focus its programme on drawing, portraiture, calligraphy and experimental art, alongside storytelling sessions and the continuation of the Art Talks series with artists.
Mathaf's activities include "Art Lessons with Ismail Azzam", where participants will develop portrait-drawing techniques using pencils, charcoal and colour in sessions offering space for artistic practice, discussion and shared learning. The programme also includes "Arabic Calligraphy with Issa Fakhro", through which participants will learn the art of Arabic calligraphy in progressive stages.
The Museum of Islamic Art will present a varied programme covering Arabic calligraphy, geometry, printmaking, design, storytelling, cinema and literature, alongside workshops inspired by the "Uzbekistan: A Continuing Legacy" exhibition.
These activities include a storytelling and colouring session organised by the museum library for young children about the life of Ibn Sina, a beginner-level "Nastaliq Calligraphy" activity for children and young people, and an intermediate-level "Diwani Calligraphy" activity for women.
Liwan Design Studios and Labs will offer practical workshops exploring ceramics and textiles as contemporary design materials. These include "Creativity with Pottery", a beginner ceramics workshop introducing participants to hand-forming methods for creating a cup, bowl or plate of their own design.
M7 will present a programme for young creatives that includes a practical jewellery-making workshop inspired by the "Jewellery from Around the World" exhibition, during which children will explore nature's influence on jewellery design.
Dadu, Children's Museum of Qatar, invited children and their families to learn, play and explore through interactive activities designed to encourage discovery and creativity and promote meaningful family engagement. Each session will give children an opportunity to learn, play and explore through interactive activities inspired by a different theme.
