Qatar has always been among the first ones to offer support and assistance to friendly countries in times of emergency and crises.

The country’s humanitarian spirit has been even more visible through this year as the world faces the COVID-19 pandemic. Qatar came to the aid of more than 80 countries, providing them with urgent medical aid, including some field hospitals.

In the midst of this crisis, Qatar also supported Lebanon, Sudan and Turkey with urgent assistance to help alleviate the suffering of the people impacted by the natural calamities in these countries.

Now, under the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has sent urgent medical aid to the Philippines in support of the victims of the Typhoon Vamco.

The medical aid comprises 40 tonnes of food and non-food items as well as camping equipment including tents, water, sanitation, electricity generators, and rescue boats.

The aid was delivered by the Qatar Amiri Air Force in cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD).

Director-general of QFFD, Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari highlighted that the assistance comes under the directives of HH the Amir and forms part of Qatar’s ongoing efforts in supporting friends in the Philippines.

He further mentioned that the swift response from Qatar reflects the country’s commitment to help alleviate the suffering of those impacted by emergencies and to advance international efforts in the field of emergency aid.

Qatar Charity (QC) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) are the strategic partners for the aid program. QRCS will work on delivering aid to the victims of the typhoon, while QC will provide food baskets to them.
