Qatar University launches Masar smart mobility app for campus traffic and parking

Qatar University has launched Masar by QU, a new smart mobility app designed to make travelling to and around its campus easier and more efficient.

The launch makes QU the first university in Qatar to introduce a dedicated smart mobility app, according to the university, combining technology and real-time data to help students, staff and visitors navigate the campus.

Check parking and traffic in real time

Masar uses AI-powered cameras and sensors to provide live information on traffic conditions, campus entrances and available parking.

Users can use the app to check conditions before travelling and choose routes based on current congestion and parking availability.

The app also provides:

• Real-time campus traffic information
• Parking availability
• Updates on campus gates
• Congestion alerts
• University bus routes
• Bus schedules

Around 200,000 cars enter QU each week

Qatar University said approximately 200,000 cars enter the campus every week, making traffic management and efficient transport an important part of the university’s wider campus development plans.

Masar brings transport services, infrastructure and real-time technology together in one platform, while also encouraging greater use of shared transportation and helping reduce unnecessary journeys.

Part of wider campus mobility improvements

The app builds on a number of transport improvements already introduced at Qatar University.

These include expanded parking facilities, the QU Campus Express, connections with the Doha Metro, student accommodation shuttles, accessible transport services and air-conditioned waiting areas.

Students helped develop the app

Dr Mohammed Elshafie, Associate Vice President for Operations Support and Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, said students played a role in testing and developing Masar.

He said the current launch represents the first phase of the platform, with QU planning to introduce additional features as the app develops.

Supporting a smarter campus

Dr Mai Al-Naemi, Vice President of Administration and Financial Affairs at Qatar University, said Masar reflects the university’s efforts to use technology to improve the everyday experience of people studying, working and visiting the campus.

She said the initiative also supports the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly the use of technology and innovation to improve quality of life and sustainable development.

Where can you download Masar?

The Masar Qatar University app is now available through both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

QU is also encouraging campus users to plan journeys in advance, use transport and parking facilities responsibly, follow speed limits, prioritise pedestrians and avoid distractions while driving.
