Qatari Participation in Longines Global Champions Tour of Cairo

Qatari riders Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al-Thani and Bassem Mohammed, along with Belgian rider Abdel Saïd of Qatar’s Wathnan team, will compete in the 14th stage of the Longines Global Champions Tour and the GCL team competition. Cairo will host the event from October 22 to 24 in partnership with the Years of Culture initiative, with an elite field of the world’s leading riders and horses taking part as part of the Qatar, Egypt and Greece 2027 Year of Culture.

The Qatari riders will join an exceptional line-up of Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix winners, promising three days of world-class sport.

Alongside Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al-Thani, Bassem Mohammed and Wathnan rider Abdel Saïd, the Cairo stage will feature several prominent names. They include British rider Ben Maher, a two-time Longines Global Champions Tour Champion, and German rider and Longines Ambassador Christian Kukuk, who claimed a memorable victory in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of London earlier this season.

German riders Daniel Deusser and Marcus Ehning will also compete, bringing extensive experience from international show-jumping arenas. French rider Simon Delestre, winner of the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Madrid earlier this year, will also take part as he seeks another victory during the 2026 season.

Against the historic backdrop of the Pyramids of Giza, the Longines Global Champions Tour of Cairo, founded in partnership with the Qatar, Egypt and Greece 2027 Year of Culture, is preparing for its highly anticipated debut in front of the Pyramids. The event will bring together some of the biggest names in show jumping for a crucial showdown in the race for the Championship title.

As a founding partner of the Cairo stage, Years of Culture is helping establish one of the most anticipated new destinations on the Global Champions calendar. The partnership celebrates Egypt’s extraordinary cultural heritage while bringing riders and audiences together through a shared passion for equestrian sport.

With a total prize purse of EUR 1.75 million, the Cairo stage carries exceptional importance as the world’s leading riders prepare for intense competition to secure valuable points in the Championship standings ahead of the season finale in Rabat.

Attention will focus on Belgian rider Abdel Saïd of Qatar’s Wathnan show-jumping team, the current Championship leader, who arrives in Cairo determined to strengthen his position at the top of the standings following his thrilling victory in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Rome.

Among his leading challengers is Austrian rider Max Kühner, who remains firmly in contention for the title and will be seeking a major result in Cairo to keep his Championship hopes alive.
