Continuing Qatar’s efforts toward ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan, His Excellency the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with several officials in Afghanistan.

In a press statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said that HE Sheikh Mohammed held talks with the head of the newly appointed interim government of Afghanistan Mohammed Hasan Akhund.

The session looked into ways of promoting peace in Afghanistan as well as reviewed the most recent developments in the country, including the operation of Kabul Airport and stressed the need to ensure freedom of passage and travel for all.

The two sides emphasized the importance of joint efforts to fight terrorist organizations that threaten Afghanistan’s stability and security.

HE Qatar’s FM asked Afghan officials to engage all Afghan parties in the national reconciliation.

During his visit to Afghanistan, HE Sheikh Mohammed also held talks with former Afghan president Hamid Karzai, and Chairman, High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah.

HE the Qatari FM also appreciated the officials’ efforts in the negotiations hosted by Doha, and reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting all endeavors toward achieving national reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Qatar will continue to play its role as an international mediator on Afghanistan and coordinate with all friendly countries to ensure the rights of Afghans, HE Qatar's FM had stressed earlier this month.

He had also highlighted Qatar's stance that the international community must join hands to provide humanitarian aid and assistance to Afghans under the present situation and that the aid should be independent of political calculations.

Qatar has gone above and beyond to support the people of Afghanistan and help the country as it undergoes a transitional period.

Over 58,000 people have transited to Doha under the country's evacuation and relocation efforts. In addition to this, Qatar has sent at least 118 tonnes of humanitarian aid including medical and food supplies to Afghanistan so far.
