Qatar is one of the few countries in the world with a dedicated day for sports. The 12th National Sports Day (NSD) — held on the second Tuesday of every February — will be take place on February 14 this year.
In past celebrations, HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar Olympic Committee President HE Sheikh Jonaan bin Hamad Al Thani and other top officials have attended the celebrations personally.
With the Amiri Diwan declaring February 14 as a national holiday, thousands of people are expected to take part in the activities.

This year, NSD 2023 will be held under the slogan ‘The Choice is Yours.’
Abdul Rahman Musallam Al Dosari, Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Youth and President of the NSD Committee, said the event contributed to raising awareness about the importance of sport in people’s lives.
“The NSD initiative, launched in Qatar, found a huge global resonance. We were able to highlight the importance of sport and its ability to help prevent chronic diseases, enhance self-confidence, and rapprochement with others,” Al Dosari said.

Qatar has been developing its sports infrastructure at a rapid pace. The country currently boasts of 2,643 km of pedestrian and cycling paths, more than 100 sports facilities, and several large parks, green areas, beaches and other facilities.
Al Dosari said NSD 2023 will feature 130 activities in different parks and sports facilities across Qatar, organised by more than 100 parties. Here is a list of activities for this year's NSD.
The Qatar Olympic Committee, the biggest sports body in the country, will run a Team Qatar Village at the Oxygen park, where visitors can enjoy over 20 activities with friends and family, and meet star Qatari athletes as well.

Qatar Foundation will also host numerous activities for people of all ages and abilities. The ‘Try-A-Tri’ event will give people an opportunity to get a feel of the sport of triathlon.

Meanwhile, Al Dosari also reviewed some of the activities of the Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA) in the past year. He announced that 207,631 men and women took part in various competitions hosted by the QSFA. Al Dosari added that they were keen to add community events to raise awareness on World Obesity Day, World Diabetes Day, and World Mental Health Day.
The top official shared the launch of several exclusive events for women in appreciation of their high turnout at various QSFA activities. He said they had also entered into agreements with several gyms in the country to offer women discounted subscriptions to encourage them to engage in sport.
