2021 has begun on a highly positive note for the GCC with the end of the blockade and the restoration of ties between Qatar and the former blockading nations after almost three and a half years.

Saudi Arabia was the first to open its airspace, land and sea borders with Qatar and hosted the historic Gulf summit that saw the signing of the Al Ula Declaration, marking a new phase in Gulf solidarity.

As Qatar and Saudi Arabia work toward enhancing ties, it was earlier announced by the latter’s foreign minister that the Saudi embassy in Qatar will open in days.

Yesterday, the Saudi Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Olympic Committee of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal arrived in Qatar.

The Saudi minister was welcomed by HE Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani at Hamad International Airport.

HRH Prince Abdulaziz has come to Qatar following an invitation by HE Sheikh Joaan to welcome the Saudi minister to witness the final day games of the FIFA Club World Cup 2020 to be held in Education City Stadium today.

President of the Qatar Football Association HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Secretary-General of QOC HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain, and several other QOC officials joined the reception.
