People say there are no limits to the power of human endurance.

Or just ask Indian ultrarunner Sufiya Sufi Khan, a three-time Guinness World Record holder who completed an attempt for a fourth by running 200km across Qatar on Friday.

Sufiya, who set out on attempting a Fastest Known Time Guinness World Record, completed the feat over two days in 30 hours and 34 minutes.

Starting her World Record attempt from the Abu Samra border on January 12, she completed the 200 km South to North ultramarathon at the Zulal Wellness Resort in Al Ruwais. While a three-member support team accompanied her at all times, several local runners accompanied her along the way.

The 37-year-old is no stranger to setting Guinness World Records. She already has three in her name, all achieved in India — for becoming the fastest woman to run from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in 2019, setting the fastest time by a female to complete the Golden Quadrilateral Road Run in 2021, and covering the Manali-Leh Himalayan Ultra Run Challenge in 2022.

The Indian Embassy in Qatar took to Twitter to congratulate the runner on her successful completion of the World Record attempt.

For the Guinness World Record to be formally recognised, Sufiya will now follow the several guidelines that have been laid down by the authorities. She will have to submit various files like GPS, photographs and videos. The whole run has been recorded on tape and will be submitted as evidence.

Qatar has always been a hotspot for successful Guinness World Record attempts. In 2021, Ahmed Al Shahrani had set a Guinness World Record for being the first and fastest para-athlete to cross Qatar in a wheelchair.

The country’s love for sports and an active lifestyle were once again highlighted when it inaugurated the world’s largest calisthenics park at the Meqdam Camp.

Three years ago, the Hamad Port entered the record books for becoming the deepest artificial basin created on land.

Qatar’s Public Works Authority Ashghal had set two back-to-back Guinness World Records — for the Longest Continuous Cycle Path (32.869km or 20.4 miles) and the Longest Piece of Asphalt Concrete Laid Continuously (25.275km).
