Following the Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza recently, the Gulf State not only voiced its strong condemnation of the attacks but several individuals and organizations have been extending humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the affectees in Palestine.
Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) president, Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer Al Thani announced yesterday that the organization has launched a QR60 million fundraising campaign for Palestine.
The campaign forms phase two of QRCS’ emergency response to the attacks in Gaza, Al-Quds and several other cities in the West Bank and hopes to be of help to 593,000 Palestinians.
In a press statement, QRCS mentioned that the "Palestinian territories saw tragic events suffered by the Palestinian people, with many deaths, injuries and displaced persons" between May 7 and 21.
"Since Day 1, QRCS has been taking all emergency humanitarian actions to relieve thousands of affected families, in coordination with Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS),” the organization added.
With $1 million in donation, QRCS gave out 600 food parcels for 4,000 people, provided psychological support services and trained some 60 physicians and nurses for enhanced emergency assessment skills.
In addition to this, vital signs monitors, medical tents, beds and essential equipment was provided to emergency departments at hospitals in Gaza.
Under the QRCS Gaza Specialized Surgery Support Project, seven consultant physicians of cardiovascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedics, urology, and anaesthetics performed 106 surgeries for the victims of war.
Many workers of the QRCS’ mission in Gaza donated blood to the Blood Bank.
The QRCS president mentioned that the 'We are all Palestine’ campaign ambitions to support Palestinian people with the provision of shelter, food and medical supplies.
Some other projects are planned to be implemented in the fields of healthcare, food and non-food items, ambulance and emergency services, and furnishing of hospitals.
“QRCS has been working together with PRCS for more than a decade,” he said.
“Over that period, we have contributed dozens of projects in Gaza, costing $110 million. Our biggest concern is the health sector, especially after 15 years of war and blockade."
