Doha Institute Welcomes 249 Students Across Graduate Programmes and Arabic Fellowship

Doha Institute for Graduate Studies has announced the enrolment of 249 students for the 2026–2027 academic year across its master's and doctoral programmes and the Doha Arabic Language Fellowship Program.

The institute offers 19 master's programmes and eight doctoral programmes. Of the new students, 154 enrolled in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, 85 in the College of Economics, Administration and Public Policy, two in doctoral studies, and eight in the Doha Arabic Language Fellowship Program.

The 249 students were selected from more than 7,000 applications submitted by candidates from around 120 countries, reflecting the competitive and diverse nature of the admissions process.

Dr. Abdelwahab El Affendi, President of Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, welcomed the students during an orientation session and encouraged them to pursue academic excellence, take responsibility and make full use of the opportunities available at the institute.

He said higher education institutions such as the Doha Institute play an important role in preparing future generations to respond to regional and global challenges through knowledge and research.

Dr. El Affendi highlighted several milestones achieved by the institute, including international accreditation following local licensing, the launch of doctoral programmes, recruitment of academic and administrative talent, growing demand for its programmes and continued development of its facilities and technology.

He also pointed to the institute's expanding relationships with universities in the East and West through memoranda of understanding, student and academic exchange agreements and research partnerships.

Students were encouraged to familiarise themselves with institute policies, use academic guidance services, uphold academic integrity and use AI-powered technologies responsibly in accordance with approved policies.

Dr. Amal Ghazal, Vice President for Academic Affairs, said the 2026–2027 cohort represents an important milestone for the institute and is one of its largest since its establishment.

She noted that most of the new students come from different Arab countries, with Qatari graduates and residents forming a major segment of the cohort.

Dr. Ghazal said this diversity supports the institute's aim of creating an academic environment that brings together students and researchers from different backgrounds and experiences.

As the institute enters its 11th year, she said it will continue building on the achievements of its first decade by strengthening the quality of its academic and research programmes, expanding its knowledge impact and supporting a new generation of researchers and specialists capable of producing knowledge in Arabic while engaging with global academic developments.

The three-day orientation programme includes presentations introducing students to the Office of Student Affairs, the institute's departments and programmes, as well as meetings with representatives from the different colleges.

Since its establishment, more than 45,000 students from Arab and other countries have studied at the institute, while the total number of graduates has reached 1,886.

Applications for the 2027–2028 academic year are scheduled to open in September.
