As Qatar's National COVID-19 Vaccination Program moves ahead in full gear, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced that 44.7 percent of the eligible population (16 years and above) in Qatar has already received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The country has been setting up dedicated facilities such as drive-through vaccination centers to make it easy for its citizens and residents to get vaccinated safely and efficiently.

Since the launch of the nationwide vaccination drive in December 2020 until now, 1,603,913 vaccine doses have been administered in Qatar, according to a weekly update by MoPH.

The Ministry further highlighted that in the last seven days, as many as 188,152 doses of the vaccine were given to citizens and residents of Qatar eligible to receive the vaccine.

With the Ministry continually emphasizing the importance of the vaccination for the elderly, it has been recorded that 80.7 percent of people above 80 years, 82.4 percent of people over 70 years and 86 percent of people above 60 have received at least one shot of the vaccine, as of May 2.

The country had hit a milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination program last week, having reached more than half a million fully vaccinated citizens and residents in Qatar. This meant that 22.3 percent of the eligible population had received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

To enable a wider section of Qatar's population to be vaccinated and become protected against COVID-19, the Ministry also recently lowered the eligibility threshold to 35 years of age.

Earlier this week, MoPH also announced the criteria for receiving the second COVID-19 dose from health centers and drive-through vaccination centers in Qatar.
