Al Shahania defeated Lusail 1-0 in their match at Khalifa International Stadium today in Week 5 of the Doha Bank Stars League.
Al Shahania owed their victory to Mohammed Siraj, who scored the match's only goal in the 55th minute. The result gave the team their second win of the competition and raised their tally to seven points in sixth place, while Lusail remained on five points and dropped to seventh.
The first half was moderate in quality and characterised by defensive caution, with both teams tightly protecting their defensive areas. This limited clear opportunities at either end, with the threat restricted to individual efforts.
Al Shahania showed greater attacking intent through possession and attempts to build play from the back, but encountered a well-organised Lusail defence. Lusail relied on quick transitions but produced little attacking threat.
Both teams resorted to shots from outside the penalty area as they struggled to break through the defences. Al Shahania threatened through Ivorian Abdoulaye Traoré, whose powerful shot passed beside the post in the 30th minute, before Lusail responded with an effort from Naif Alhadhrami that goalkeeper Shehab Ellethy saved in the 40th minute, leaving the first half goalless.
The second half was livelier and featured more attacking intent. Lusail threatened in the 52nd minute when Iranian Hamidreza Firouzi went through on goal and struck a powerful shot that the goalkeeper saved, before Al Shahania responded with a counterattack led by Jawad El Jemili, who passed to Mohammed Siraj in front of goal for the latter to score in the 55th minute.
Lusail pressed for an equaliser after falling behind. Iranian Farhad Ismail nearly scored in the 73rd minute when he went through on goal and struck a powerful effort that Shehab Ellethy saved, before the crossbar denied Ali Nemati from a header in the 85th minute.
Lusail committed their attacking resources during the remaining minutes, while Al Shahania displayed defensive resilience and protected their lead. Al Shahania secured a valuable 1-0 victory and their second win of the competition.
