The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the closure of the Al Gharafa Immigration Bridge – in the direction from North to South for at least one month.

The announcement came as emergency maintenance work began on the bridge on Friday.

Ashghal has requested all motorists coming from north toward the south of Doha to use the temporary traffic diversion on Al Gharafa interchange (Immigration interchange) or take alternate routes such as Sabah Al Ahmed Corridor or Al Jamaa Street.

Those coming from Dukhan Road toward Khalifa Street (Al Markhiya) are asked to use the Immigration Tunnel.

Al Luqta residents, who are approaching east, can use Makkah Al Mokarama street and Omar bin Al Khattab tunnel as an alternative of Al Gharafa interchange to remain unaffected by the diversion.

Madinat Khalifa North residents can use the bridge connecting Madinat Khalifa North with Al Ittihad Street if they approach Gharafa in order to avoid the traffic congestion that could be experienced at Al Gharrafa interchange.

The authority has assured all residents and citizens of Qatar that confirmed that the structure of the bridge is safe and that the maintenance is limited to filling works and asphalt sub-base only.

Ashghal has also installed road signs alerting motorists of the traffic change ahead.

Additionally, road users are urged to abide by the speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety as well as that of other road users.
