The trade-off is distance. Al Khor is a genuine commute from central Doha, so it makes the most sense for people who work in northern Qatar or are comfortable driving regularly. Where is Al Khor and how far is it from Doha?

Driving to Doha

Ashghal said when the road opened that the improved route could connect Al Khor with the Doha end of the corridor in approximately 20 minutes.

For an actual trip into central Doha, however, plan closer to the approximately 45-minute journey quoted by Visit Qatar rather than treating 20 minutes as a city-centre commute. Peak traffic, your exact destination and the starting point within Al Khor can all add time.

If roadworks or temporary closures are announced, check Ashghal's official channels before travelling rather than relying on an old diversion notice.

Taxis and public transport

There is no Doha Metro station in Al Khor. Visit Qatar recommends travelling by Metro to Lusail and then continuing by bus. Current public-transport information also shows the R702 service linking Lusail Bus Station with Al Khor and surrounding northern stops.

If you use a Karwa taxi, don't budget around a fixed QAR 56 Al Khor-to-Doha fare. Karwa taxis are metered, and Mowasalat does not currently publish a complete 2026 tariff table on its public website. Check the trip estimate in the Karwa app before booking.

Public transport is possible, but it is considerably less convenient than driving for frequent commuting. For most families whose work, school runs and errands are spread across northern Qatar and Doha, having a car is likely to make daily life easier.

Treat these as current asking-rent examples rather than fixed market averages. Also check the map carefully: some property portals group nearby locations such as Sumaysimah and Al Thakhira under the wider Al Khor municipality, which can distort a search intended specifically for Al Khor city.

Compound living can work particularly well for families where properties offer shared facilities such as pools, gyms, gardens or playgrounds, but facilities vary considerably by compound.

Employer housing should be checked against your employment package. Some northern energy-sector employees have historically received company accommodation or housing benefits, but do not assume these are included without confirming directly with HR.
