Asian Games: Chinese Swimmer Zhang Zhanshuo Makes History With Seventh Gold

Chinese swimmer Zhang Zhanshuo won a record seventh swimming gold medal at the current "Aichi-Nagoya 2026" Asian Games on Friday, claiming the 400-metre title in a Games record time of 3:41.28.

At this edition, Zhang surpassed Japan's Rikako Ikee, who won six gold medals in Jakarta in 2018, before China's Zhang Yufei equalled her achievement in Hangzhou five years later.

No swimmer had previously won seven gold medals at a single edition of the Games. Zhang confirmed his dominance at this edition after winning three individual gold medals in the 200, 800 and 1,500-metre events, in addition to three relay golds.

Zhang established a commanding advantage in the 400-metre race, finishing 4.27 seconds ahead of Japan's Kazushi Imafuku, who claimed the silver medal.
