The Ministry of Interior (MoI) reported that more than 800 people have been referred to prosecution, on Sunday, for not adhering to safety protocols in line with the current COVID-19 situation. MoI specified the exact number on their social media and said that the relevant authorities have done so in order to enforce the wearing of masks and encourage the general public to adhere to precautionary and preventative measures.

On Sunday, i.e., July 17, 2022, the number of people who were booked for not wearing a face mask was 837. Additionally, 14 people were also booked for not having installed the Ehteraz application on their mobile phones. The number of people being booked for violating mask protocol has nearly doubled since Saturday, July 16, wherein nearly 400 persons were booked for not wearing one in public spaces. The prosecutions are done on the basis of Law No. 17 of 1990 that pertains to infectious diseases and their relevant preventative measures.

Qatar’s daily COVID-19 case count spiked up to more than 1,200 cases yesterday, and this calls for stringent adherence to safety protocols. Currently, the Cabinet decision entails the general public aged six years and above to wear the face mask at all times in closed public spaces including malls, healthcare facilities, public transport vehicles, mosques, workplaces, shops, and cinemas. To reduce the rate of transmissions in the community, the Ministry of Public Health and other relevant authorities urge the public to continue to wear masks at all times outside their homes. Additionally, the authorities also encourage the public to follow safety measures and get the booster fourth dose after four months of the third dose.
