It seems like winter is not ending anytime soon in Qatar.
According to a weather report issued by the Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) yesterday, the country is likely to be enveloped by a ‘cold spell,’ starting next week, from January 26 until several days.
Temperatures may dip as low as 5-degree Celsius with the maximum temperature expected to reach 14-degree Celsius during this period, QMD said.

The weather office said the cold spell is expected to engulf the country “due to the extension of a high-pressure system over the region accompanied by northwesterly fresh to strong winds, especially on Sunday and Monday (January 27).”
On these days, the wind speed may range between 15 knots and 25 knots and ascend up to 30 knots high inshore and 40 knots offshore.
The strong winds may result in blowing dust and cause poor visibility of below 3 kilometers in some parts of the country, QMD said.
“The maximum temperature is expected to drop during the cold spell, ranging from 14-17C, while the minimum will be from 5-12C across the country,” according to the forecast, which adds that the “felt temperatures” will be much lower than this owing to the strong winds.
All citizens and residents have been urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their families. During this period, QMD has strictly advised against marine activities and keep track of the latest weather updates through the department’s social media pages.

Meanwhile, today’s forecast by the department indicates the possibility of strong winds affecting some places with a chance of scattered rain that may continue until Friday noon.
