The Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region will soon have its first-ever center for sustainable food production, Qatar News Agency reported.
The regional hub will be set up in Umm Alhoul Free Zone, under a partnership between Eat Just Inc, a US company that uses modern technology to develop healthier, more sustainable foods, Doha Venture Capital (DVC) and Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA).
The center will feature a large-scale facility for Eat Just’s ‘GOOD Meat division’, which created the world’s first-to-market meat made from animal cells instead of slaughtered livestock, and has branches in Singapore, according to Gulf Times. A protein processing facility for ‘JUST Egg’, the company’s plant-based egg division may also be included in the set up.
The hub will be the first-of-its-kind in the region and reflects QFZA's focus on collaborating with leading entities utilizing cutting-edge technology to pave the way for a more sustainable future.
