His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi yesterday issued a ministerial decision on the system of national tests in public schools, stipulating that this system be replaced by standardized achievement tests, to measure the level of academic achievement of students.

The standardized achievement tests would be carried out within the curriculum designed for the second semester at the end of the third, sixth and ninth levels.

Under the ministerial decision, the Student Assessment Office at the ministry is tasked with overseeing the organization of standardized achievement tests, and relevant exam preparation committees will be formed by a decision of the ministry.

The committees will include representatives from the student assessment and educational guidance offices and schools.

In connection with this decision, HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education issued another decision to form a committee to establish a national evaluation system for state schools. This system will aim to provide data on the level of the schools' performance and the extent of the development of students’ learning.

This will allow the Ministry to develop the indicators it uses to measure the quality of education in state schools as well as the effectiveness of curricula to establish the necessary plans to develop the
educational process.

This committee will be chaired by the undersecretary of the ministry and includes three members from the ministry, one from the educational field, one from Qatar University and one from Hamad bin Khalifa University.

This group will be responsible for developing a national assessment system to assess the skills and abilities of school students.

The committee should take into account the age or study level of the students under evaluation, the establishment of a mechanism for determining the schools and segments of the students selected for the evaluation, the identification of subjects presented to the evaluation process.

The committee will complete all its work and submit its recommendations to the Minister on December 1, according to the requirements under the decision.
