The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced that according to astronomical calculations conducted by experts, Friday, April 21, will be the beginning of the month of Shawwal and the first day of the blessed Eid al-Fitr.

The final decision regarding the beginning of the Shawwal month remains within the competence of the Crescent Sighting Committee at Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

According to Engineer Faisal Al Ansari, Executive Director of Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari Complex, the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1444 AH will be born on Thursday, April 20 (the day of investigation), at 7.13am Doha time.

Al Ansari said the crescent of the month of Shawwal will set after the sunset of the investigation day in Qatar’s sky, with a period of 22 minutes, and that period will increase as we head west.

While the beginnings and ends of Hijri months depend on the movement of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth, the starts and conclusions of the Gregorian months depend on the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the sun.
