Qatar’s General Directorate of Endowments launched the seventh Waqf and Image Contest under its Waqf Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development.
The competition uses photography to promote waqf values - including giving, shared responsibility and sustainability - and raise awareness of resource protection, community and environmental service, and lasting impact.
Director-General Eng Hassan Abdullah Al Marzouqi said the contest has expanded since its 2018 launch, adding international participation from its third edition and covering themes such as the Holy Qur’an, mosques, healthcare, volunteering, nature and science.
The fifth edition attracted 694 photographers from 49 countries. The sixth, themed ‘Science and Its Edifices,’ drew 655 photographers from 21 countries; 30 contestants won prizes totalling QAR203,000.
This year, ‘Sustainability’ is the theme for the international category, while the local category covers ‘Sustainability’ and ‘Teamwork.’ Al Marzouqi said the themes reflect waqf’s focus on preserving resources, delivering enduring benefits, cooperation, and serving future generations.
He invited photographers and creatives in Qatar and internationally to submit visual works that embody these values. The contest aims to use photography as a universal medium to communicate waqf’s humanitarian and development mission across languages and cultures.
