Participants in a panel discussion entitled "The Power of the Center", as part of the activities "Global Perspectives: In Doha", stressed the importance of enhancing the role of medium economies in shaping the global economic system, by expanding regional and international partnerships, diversifying trade and investment pathways, and enhancing coordination between countries in the face of economic and geopolitical transformations.
The session discussed the opportunities available to the economies of Africa, Asia and the Middle East to enhance their bargaining power and find alternatives to traditional centers of influence in light of the competition between the world's largest economies.
The discussions also addressed the importance of building alliances between countries within and between different continents and regions, in a way that contributes to enhancing economic and diplomatic cooperation, and coordinating efforts on common issues.
In this context, HE the European Union's Special Representative for the Gulf Region, Luigi Di Maio, stressed that the current challenges are no longer limited to the integration of markets and investments, but have extended to diplomacy and international relations, noting that the experience of the European Union, which was founded on a path of integration between countries that have fought wars with each other for centuries, reflects the importance of cooperation in addressing common challenges.
He added that the world is witnessing a growing trend towards building regional and international alliances that allow regional powers to address their issues and coordinate their efforts with other regions, pointing out that many of these alliances seek to defend multilateral international law in light of the formation of a multipolar world order.
He explained that the success of this path will be revealed by future developments, but it represents an indispensable option in light of the transformations the world is witnessing.
At the end of the session, the interventions stressed the importance of preserving multilateral international law and strengthening cooperation among countries, in light of the transformation towards a multipolar world order.
