The OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, and OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu welcome the adoption, of a Ministerial Council decision to make Qatar the Organization’s 12th Partner for Co-operation. The decision was reached through a silence procedure, drawing consensus from all 57 participating States.
Qatar joins the OSCE’s five Asian Partners for Co-operation, further strengthening the Organization’s engagement with neighbouring regions and dialogue on shared security challenges.
“The decision to welcome a new Partner for Co-operation further strengthens the OSCE and testifies to the relevance of cooperative security. We are pleased to welcome Qatar to the discussions in Vienna and at the OSCE Ministerial Council in Lugano on 3-4 December 2026,” stated OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis.
“I am delighted to welcome Qatar as the OSCE’s newest Partner for Co-operation. Qatar brings in a unique and proven experience in mediation, which is particularly valuable in today’s polarized and volatile security environment,” said OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu. “Today’s consensus decision to welcome a new Partner strengthens the Organization. We look forward to welcoming Qatar to our table, making our dialogue on shared security challenges more inclusive and, I am confident, more effective.”
The OSCE’s relationship with its Asian Partners provides a unique platform to exchange experiences and best practices, fostering closer co-operation and building synergies between the OSCE region and Asia.
Qatar’s participation as a Partner for Co-operation will provide further opportunities to foster this dialogue and explore areas for co-operation, contributing to a broader and more inclusive approach to security.
