HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi has issued a decision appointing the members of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law.

Under the decision, the committee will be chaired by HE Saeed bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice.

The committee’s membership includes Brigadier General Abdullah Ibrahim Al Fadhala, representing the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Saad Salem Al Dosari, representing the Ministry of Interior, Sarah Abdullah Al Saadi, representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Khalid Mohammed Al Khamis Al Obaidli, representing the Ministry of Justice and serving as rapporteur of the committee.

The membership also includes Dr Abdullah Hamad Al Khaldi, representing the Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Iskandar Al Qadi, representing the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr Ali Jaber Dharman, representing the Ministry of Public Health, and Maha Hamad Al Attiyah, representing the Ministry of Social Development and Family.

Other members include Ashwaq Saeed Al Sairi, representing the Ministry of Labour, HE Issa bin Arar Al Rumaihi, representing the Shura Council, Abdullatif Mohammed Al Jasmi, representing Qatar Museums, Dr Sarah Hamad Al Qarah, representing Qatar University, Rashid Mohammed Al Hamda Al Nuaimi, representing Qatar Foundation, and Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi, representing Qatar Red Crescent Society.

The National Committee for International Humanitarian Law is the national mechanism responsible for promoting respect for the provisions of international humanitarian law and coordinating among relevant national entities.

Its functions include following up on the implementation of Qatar’s international obligations in this field, helping consolidate humanitarian principles and protect people during armed conflicts.

HE Saeed bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi welcomed the new members and wished them success in carrying out their duties and continuing to achieve the committee’s mission and objectives.

He said the expertise and capabilities of the members will serve as a valuable addition that strengthens the committee’s work and enhances its outcomes during the new term.

HE Al Suwaidi also expressed his gratitude to the members of the previous session, praising their sincere efforts and valuable contributions.

He said their work had a significant impact on strengthening the committee’s progress and its national role in promoting and reinforcing respect for international humanitarian law.

HE Al Suwaidi affirmed that the committee is preparing to present an integrated package of programmes, activities, and initiatives aimed at spreading the culture of international humanitarian law at the national level.

He added that the committee’s work will also include capacity-building and strengthening partnerships with national, regional, and international entities.

These efforts aim to consolidate Qatar’s position in supporting humanitarian work and strengthening respect for the international rules-based order.
