The Food Safety Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) carried out a wide range of inspections, laboratory tests and regulatory activities during the second quarter of 2026 to ensure food safety and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
According to the department’s key figures and achievements for the period, 136,280 tests were conducted at Food Safety Laboratories.
The department also inspected 29,147 imported food shipments to verify their compliance with food safety standards, relevant regulations and technical requirements. A total of 6,163 samples were collected from imported foodstuffs and the country’s ports for testing.
Through the Watheq system, the department provided 1,603 electronic services and approved 10,746 food products. The system also recorded 1,281 registered food establishments during the quarter.
At the local level, officials collected 7,807 samples from food establishments and carried out 5,748 inspection visits to ensure compliance with food safety standards and regulations. The department also issued 1,826 food handler permits during the second quarter.
In addition, the Food Safety Department responded to 231 public complaints and inquiries, reflecting its continued efforts to address food safety concerns and strengthen consumer protection.
