His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has issued the Amiri order No. 2 of 2020, appointing His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani as Qatar’s new Prime Minister, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

The Order will be effective from its date of issuance and shall be published in the official gazette, QNA stated in a tweet.

The state news agency also reported earlier that HH the Amir has accepted the resignation of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani as the country’s Prime Minister.

The new PM, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, has been serving as the Chief of the Amiri Diwan since his appointment to the position following the Amiri Order No. 5 of 2014, reported The Peninsula. 

HE Sheikh Abdullah said in a tweet, In the beginning, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the precious confidence that he has shown me throughout the period of my service, and for his guidance to me over the past years, and I also hope that I have succeeded in bearing responsibility and honesty throughout my service For the homeland and the prince.”
