HIA named 'World's Best Airport' at Skytrax 2021 World Airport Awards

Qatar's gateway to the world, Hamad International Airport (HIA), was declared the 'World's Best Airport' at the Skytrax 2021 World Airport Awards yesterday.

The announcement, which was made in London, was telecasted at a media event at HIA.

The Skytrax 2021 World Airport Awards recognize the efforts of airports around the world in tackling the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the world air transport industry faced the most challenging and financially difficult period in the last 18 months, global airports invested to provide the safest possible environment for their customers and staff.

HIA, which has consistently been ranked among the leading airports in the world over the years, worked above and beyond to elevate the passenger experience.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the airport has been implementing a series of safety measures to limit the spread of the infection.

With the use of cutting-edge technology, such as disinfectant robots and thermal imaging helmets, HIA strived to optimize the safety of its staff and passengers.

In December last year, HIA became the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating by Skytrax.
