Qatar Airways, which had suffered a loss of some passengers due to a laptop ban placed on the flights leaving to the USA, can now heave a sigh of relief.

The airlines has joined two other major Gulf carriers in getting off a US laptop ban list, reported Al Jazeera.

The airline tweeted today about an ‘important update on carrying personal electronic items on flight to the USA.’

Qatar Airways also put up an announcement on its website, which began by saying “Qatar Airways is pleased to confirm that with immediate effect, all personal electronic devices can be carried on board all departures from Hamad International Airport, Doha, to destinations in the United States.”

“Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport have met with all requirements of the US Department of Homeland Security’s new security guidelines and we would like to express our thanks to the US and local authorities for their support during this process,” it read.

“We would also like to thank our loyal passengers for their understanding and patience while the ban has been in place,” the note said.

The move brought closure to a three-month in-cabin ban on devices for the Doha-based airline.

Qatar Airways joined Emirates, Turkish Airlines and Etihad Airways, who have also announced this week a lifting of the US ban on their flights, reported Reuters.

In March, USA had put up the ban on direct flights from eight countries — Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey — amidst fears that bombs could be hidden in electronic devices.

The new measures is expected to take up to three weeks to take effect.
