The General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) announced that the QR 250 million power transmission network (Commercial) that is to connect livestock farms in Qatar to electricity supply has reached completion. The network connects over 5,000 livestock farms in remote areas to power supply, according to a report by Qatar Tribune.

Assistant Director of Customer Services at Kahramaa, Abdullah Faraj Mubarak Nasrullah, announced the network’s completion at a press conference on Sunday, stating that “Kahramaa will begin connecting the farm complexes in accordance with the standard procedures after the completion of receiving the applications. Once the application is received, electricity connection will be provided within a period of three months.”

The network’s development under the 'commercial' category is aimed to lessen the initial investment required for the farms to receive electricity connection.

"Now, the farmers will get the power supply with an initial investment of QR4,410 instead of the earlier Kahramaa's fee of QR44,350 for the same under the 'entertainment' category," he said.

According to The Peninsula, Director of Animal Wealth Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Farhoud Hadi al Hajri elaborated that the project was completed in a record time of 6 months to reach livestock farms across Al Khrairb, Al Simaisma, Al Wakrah, Al Khor, Al Shehaniya and Abu Nakhlah.

Hajri also stated that there are close to 1.6 million livestock in Qatar, with the number of economic animals in the farms being around 350,000 head, 66 percent of which are sheep.

Kahramaa also announced yesterday that it would be open to applications from these farms to connect them with electricity starting from August 8.
