People who are travelling from Doha to the Industrial Area and vice versa have reasons to be happy as a newly-opened underpass is set to make the driving experience significantly smoother.

Ashghal, Qatar’s Public Works Authority, announced the opening of the new 700M underpass at the Mesaimeer Interchange yesterday, according to Gulf Times.

The new underpass will provide tremendous relief to residents of Umm Al Seneem, Mesaimeer and Industrial Area, who will get a free-flowing link between Industrial Area Road and E-Ring Road for the first time.

The new underpass, located underneath F Ring Road and Mesaimeer Road, replaces the roundabout on Industrial Area Road. To further improve traffic flow towards the new underpass, Ashghal has also opened an additional 1.8km section of Industrial Area Road with four lanes in each direction, enhancing the road's vehicle capacity by 25%, reported Qatar Tribune.

The opening of the underpass is the second major milestone in the three-level Mesaimeer Interchange project. Ashghal opened the interchange's highest level, a 900M flyover which connects F Ring Road to Mesaimeer Road, in July 2016.

The final level of the three-level Mesaimeer Interchange, a signalised intersection that will provide new connections between the F-Ring Road and Industrial Area Road, is expected to be completed before the end of 2017.
