The Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Department for the Protection of Environment, Natural Reserve and Wildlife, destroyed several consignments of illegal wildlife products that were seized at different border check posts, reported The Peninsula.

The Department destroyed meat of more than 110 wild rabbits, 32 curlew birds, three deers (gazelles) and 11 wild gooses from the confiscated consignments.

A total of eight frozen crowned sandgrouses, and meat and other products of 289 different wild animals were also destroyed.

The confiscated products were destroyed in the presence of Mohammad Mubarak Al Marri, Head of the Wildlife Section at the Department and several others officials from the Ministry.

The action was aimed at protecting the strategic reserve of the wildlife at natural environment in its homeland from extinction.  

The Ministry will strictly take all necessary legal actions against violations and confiscate illegal wildlife products that were imported without taking prior permission from the authority concerned.
