Ministry of Culture brings local publications to 29th Algiers International book fair

The Ministry of Culture is participating in the 29th Algiers International Book Salon, which kicked off today and will continue until November 7, as part of a wide international participation that brings together publishers and cultural institutions, as part of the Ministry's efforts to introduce Qatari intellectual and literary production and enhance its presence in international exhibitions and forums.

Mr. Jassim Ahmed Al-Buainain, Director of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Culture and Director of the Doha International Book Fair, said that participation in the Algiers International Book Salon comes as part of the Ministry's interest in promoting the definition of Qatari culture and its publications, and delivering local intellectual and literary production to a wider audience, as well as expanding the areas of communication with participating cultural institutions and publishing houses.

He explained that the presentation of the Ministry's publications represents an opportunity to highlight the diversity of Qatari cultural content, and to introduce works that contribute to documenting aspects of knowledge, literature and local culture, noting that the participation also includes promoting the Doha International Book Fair and introducing it to publishers and those interested in the book industry.

He stressed the importance of attending international exhibitions because they provide opportunities to communicate and exchange experiences between the authorities concerned with books and publishing, and to build cooperation relations with cultural institutions, in order to support the spread of Qatari publications and enhance their presence in markets and cultural events outside the country.

The participation of the Ministry of Culture includes the establishment of a pavilion inspired by traditional Qatari architecture, which embodies features of the national identity and architectural heritage of the country, and presents visitors with a picture of the connection of Qatari cultural heritage to the contemporary cultural movement, as well as participation in a seminar entitled: "International Competitions and Cultural Diplomacy: The Ethics Award for Arabic Calligraphy as a Model".
