MoECC opens nominations for GCC Environment and Wildlife Award

Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has opened nominations for the 2026–27 Gulf Cooperation Council Environment and Wildlife Award, inviting organisations and individuals to submit projects that have delivered measurable environmental impact.

The award recognises initiatives contributing to biodiversity protection, sustainability and ecosystem restoration across the Gulf region.

Who can apply?

The competition is open to a wide range of applicants, including:

• Government and semi-government entities
• Academic and research institutions
• Private companies
• Civil society organisations
• Individuals

Applicants are encouraged to identify a primary category for their project while also highlighting any relevant secondary areas.

Three main award areas

The 2026–27 edition focuses on three key areas:

• Innovation and technology in biodiversity and its management
• Community participation in biodiversity protection
• Projects focused on restoring and rehabilitating ecosystems

The Ministry said submitted projects or initiatives must already be completed and demonstrate measurable results aligned with the award’s objectives.

What must applicants submit?

Each nomination must include a separate application and nomination file.

Applicants must also provide:

• A video of no more than two minutes explaining the project and its outcomes
• An executive summary of no more than two pages
• Supporting documents and reports showing the environmental results and practices involved

Deadline in March 2027

The deadline for submitting nominations is March 2027.

Applications will first be reviewed by Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change before being forwarded through the approved procedures to the GCC General Secretariat for evaluation and judging.

Winners to be honoured in 2027

Award winners are expected to be recognised on the sidelines of the 2027 meeting of GCC ministers responsible for environmental affairs.

The award aims to highlight practical environmental achievements while encouraging greater innovation, participation and cooperation in biodiversity protection across the Gulf.
