In a bid to enhance the training of new drivers in Qatar, the Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the General Directorate of Traffic, unveiled a unified Driving Training System (DTS) and Monitoring Centre at the Traffic headquarters in Madinat Khalifa yesterday.

During the launch ceremony, the traffic authorities also announced the opening of an automated 24-hour call center service.

A first for the region, the initiative will operate under the supervision of the Licensing Department at the General Directorate of Traffic.

The new system aims to enhance training standards in driving schools with the ultimate focus on enhancing road safety in Qatar.

The comprehensive DTS system covers the registration process, training, tests, and obtaining the license, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Director-General of Traffic Mohammed Saad Al Kharji said the new e-system is more transparent in terms of the results and will lead to better drivers.

Under the new system, the presence of only the driver in the car during tests is expected to ease the stress learners may otherwise experience.

The new system will allow a trainee to take the theoretical test in their language of preference.

Learners can choose from up to 18 available languages on the DTS app that can be installed on their mobile phone or they may use an iPad provided by the driving school.

Smart test vehicles with sensors will be used for practical tests.

Additionally, the parking test track at driving schools will be equipped with sensors to provide test results electronically, according to the officials.

Speaking at the launch, Major-General Al Kharji said the new system focuses on bringing out well-trained drivers.

The new system ensures impartiality and transparency in tests and results, he added.

He also mentioned that learners can share their concerns about the trainer and the training process through the DTS application.

According to Major-General Al Kharji, the training hours will be strictly monitored through the operations room in the licensing department to ensure the trainee gets proper training and attention.

Moreover, learners can get their test results immediately and can also see the errors they made on the test screens of the DTS dashboard.

Lieutenant-Colonel Salem Fahd Al Marri, Head of the Drivers’ Licensing Section said the system would ensure trainees undergo 45 minutes of training to “benefit from its full share.”

He added that the trainees would be able to check their training schedule, the status of the trainer, and the replacement of the trainer if he is on leave, among other details.
