Qatar's National COVID-19 Vaccination Program has hit a new milestone with more than 507,000 people now fully vaccinated against the virus, the Ministry of Public Health announced yesterday.

MoPH said that those who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination in Qatar account for 22.3 percent of the eligible population.

Over the last couple of weeks, the country has established dedicated facilities to ensure its citizens and residents can take the COVID-19 vaccine safely and efficiently.

After the launch of a temporary vaccination center at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) in February, a drive-through vaccination facility in Lusail, a second drive-through vaccination center in Al Wakra, the country saw the opening of a new vaccination center in the Industrial Area just recently.

With the availability of these venues in addition to all 27 PHCC health centers, a large number of eligible citizens and residents are able to get vaccinated against the virus, under a smooth process.

Achieving this significant milestone of more than half a million fully vaccinated people follows the Ministry’s weekly update, according to which until Sunday, April 25, 1,415,761 vaccine doses had been administered in Qatar.

Since the start of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive, 39.9 percent of the eligible population (16 years and above) in the country has gotten at least one shot of the vaccine.

In the last seven days, as many as 167,532 doses of the vaccine were given to citizens and residents of Qatar eligible to receive the vaccine.

With the Ministry urging the elderly to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, it has been recorded that 79.5 percent of people above 80 years, 81.2 percent of people over 70 years and 84.5 percent of people above 60 have received at least one shot of the vaccine, as of April 25.

To enable a wider section of Qatar's population to be vaccinated and become protected against COVID-19, the Ministry also lowered the eligibility threshold to 35 years of age.
