A patrol team from the Ministry of Environment managed to capture a baby cheetah yesterday after it escaped from a cage in a house in Al Sakhama in Al Shamal, north of Qatar.

Al Shamal Police alerted the ministry's control room about the beast on the prowl, The Peninsula reported.

The ministry handed over the cheetah to the zoo and launched an investigation to trace its owner and how the animal escaped.

In the past, several Qatar residents have raised concerns about locals' hobby of keeping wild animals as pets at home.

This hobby is not just unique to Qatar, but is also a flourishing trade in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Plenty of photos and videos have been circulating on the Internet and shared on social media.

Qatar's Ministry of Interior warned "offenders" through Facebook in December last year and advised against keeping wild animals at home. However, it did not mention what the consequences will be for those continuing to raise these wild animals at home.

What do you think is the best way the Qatar government can deal with this dangerous hobby?
