Qatar Chamber has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering persons with disabilities in the labour market while strengthening the private sector’s role in supporting inclusive and sustainable development.
HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber, said the approach is gaining increasing importance as Doha prepares to host the Fourth Global Disability Summit in 2028.
He praised Qatar’s continuing efforts to advance the rights of persons with disabilities, empower them and promote their effective inclusion across different areas of society.
HE Sheikh Khalifa said hosting the 2028 summit reflects Qatar’s commitment to equal opportunities and reinforces its role as a global partner in human development.
He added that efforts to align international perspectives and launch impactful initiatives can help safeguard dignity and transform disability-related challenges into opportunities to invest in human capital at national and international levels.
The Qatar Chamber Chairman also stressed that the private sector is a key partner in integrating and empowering persons with disabilities.
He said an integrated system should extend beyond recruitment to include comprehensive training and rehabilitation, skills development, workplace accessibility, human resources readiness and continued support to ensure sustainable long-term employment.
According to HE Sheikh Khalifa, Qatar Chamber has adopted several initiatives aimed at developing the skills and capabilities of persons with disabilities.
He said this reflects a shift from traditional support and care towards a broader approach focused on economic empowerment, capacity building, sustainable employment and enabling persons with disabilities to contribute actively to national development.
HE Sheikh Khalifa also highlighted Qatar Chamber’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with relevant organisations, including the Volunteer Initiative for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities, to improve communication between these organisations and private-sector companies.
He stressed the importance of raising awareness about providing suitable employment opportunities, making use of the capabilities and skills of persons with disabilities, and encouraging companies to create more inclusive and sustainable workplaces.
